So lately I've been thinking a lot about home. Iowa, my roots. And I have sorted through my pictures and pulled out my favorites as possible paintings. Growing up, I took for granted all the beautiful landscapes that surrounded me.
So I am homesick...

Spooning
Oil on canvas panel
5" x 5"
Day Two
I love these little collectable spoons! My mom got me started by giving me my first spoon and contributing to the collection with every trip my parents took. My sister has a collection as well and somehow, I've ended up with part of my mom's collection and part of my sister's collection. So these little spoons are pretty precious to me.
They were tricky little buggers to paint. Overall, I'm pleased with this painting just 'cuz the reflections on the metal was so much fun to catch.

2016 Challenge! Day One...
I'm taking on a new challenge for 2016!
Inspiration comes from Carol Marine who wrote, Daily Painting: Paint Small and Often To Become a More Creative, Productive, and Successful Artist. I am eagerly awaiting her book that I just ordered from Amazon!
So here's the gist...create a painting every day for 30 days. Um, yea, 30 days.
Feeling a little insane just typing the words because I know that once school starts back up I will be feeling the time crunch. Did I mention I have a little gig as an elementary art teacher? And "art teacherin'" is cutting into my "painting in my jammies" time.
So here's my first painting.
Day One. Done.
I love my antiques and loved playing with the values of white and the colors reflected in the fixture.
I'm naming this one "That's Hot" and it works best said in your best Paris Hilton voice.

Eating Crow
This is a more contemporary painting. I took this shot on the beach in Costa Rica. This is one of the largest paintings I've done, measuring 48" x 24". Great for above a sofa. So interesting, especially for my art students, that when we imagine something like a crow we think "black". As we study the image there's so much more involved thanks to beautiful, incredible lighting! Hope you enjoy.

Smart Guy
My gosh...it's been SOOOOOO long since I've posted. Just goes to show how busy I get during the school year. I have been having a creative blast since school is out for summer.
Check out this new little guy created with wire and paper mache! I LOVE him! He's sitting on top of three very smart books (electromagnetics, mechanical measurements). Get the picture? His clothing has lots of mathematical equations and graphs. He's brilliant. Every time I look at him he looks like he just came up with an incredible solution to some mathematical quandary. Yep, he's contemplating something important right now!
I love the process of paper mache. It's so much fun to see these characters come to life! Let me know if you are interested in purchasing this piece. I can also do commissioned pieces. Have a favorite book? Let me create your favorite character using pages from the book. I know...I tear up books. No haters!
